The Living History Foundation brings history to life through first-person interpretation of life in the the 18th or early 19th century, at historic sites and events in Northern Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, and the surrounding area. Our aim is to help the visiting public connect with and learn about the people and events of the past, and think about how they shaped the world of today. We work to interact with the visitor through conversation and hands-on experience. We maintain a high level of authenticity in our presentation, but help the visitors to have fun while they learn.
The Living History Foundation is a non-profit volunteer organization. Our members, young and old, take pride in presenting an authentic appearance and behavior, as well as sharing historically accurate information. The Foundation maintains a regular schedule of workshops and training to teach period skills. Members build on that training with their own research to improve their knowledge of the period, its life, and its events.
Visit with us this year at events in Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, and elsewhere. Visit our Calendar of Events page for a complete listing of events.

American History
The United States of America has been blessed with a varied and exciting history. From the first colonies on the North American continent to the fight to spread freedom throughout the world.
Through the 400 years during which Europeans, and immigrants from innumerable other countries, have occupied this land, styles, ideas, customs, and fashion have consistently changed. As many people have been quoted saying “The only consistent thing is change.” And from generation to generation change has continued on our American continent.
